The UMI fee schedule below provides for Regular and Late registration options, as well as a discount for members of the International Marine Minerals Society.
Regular Fee: Member USD 425, Non Member USD 460. The regular fee covers the welcoming reception, technical sessions and materials, UMI banquet, and membership to IMMS through 2012 (USD 35).
Senior Fee: Member USD 375, Non Member USD 410. This fee is provided as a courtesy to retired professionals who are no longer supported by an institution or company. These participants are entitled to the welcoming reception, technical sessions and materials, UMI banquet, and membership to IMMS through 2012.
Single-Day Fee: Member USD 300, Non Member USD 335. This fee entitles the participant to one technical session on September 15th or 16th along with the associated materials and membership to IMMS through 2012.
Student Fee: USD 325. The student fee includes the welcoming reception, technical sessions and materials, UMI banquet, and membership to IMMS through 2012. Students must provide verification of student status and be willing to assist during the conference.
Late Fee: A late fee of USD 25 is assessed for those registering after July 31, 2011.

Kalapana Lava Walk (September 15, Thursday, 6:00–10:00 PM, optional, lava and weather conditions permitting, and open to UMI participants and guests): USD 40. Meet in hotel lobby at 5:45 PM for 45-minute ride to the Kalapana coastline where in recent years flowing lava has often been visible from safe distances designated by the U.S. Volcanoes National Park Service. This 35-minute walk includes transportation, a boxed dinner, rain gear and flashlights. (An alternate activity will be arranged, if needed).
Highlights of Hilo Fee (September 16, Friday,10:00 AM–3:00 PM): USD 35. This feature of the UMI is open to spouses and guests of UMI participants only and includes various stops in Hilo Town. The fee covers transportation, lunch, and admission. Meet in hotel lobby by 10:00 AM.
Banquet Fee for Single-Day Registrants, Spouses, and Guests (September 16, Friday, 6:00–9:30 PM, ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center): USD 60. This fee applies only to single-day registrants, spouses, and guests of the UMI. (Note: If you are a regular, emeritus, or student UMI participant the banquet is included in your registration fee.)

In addition, the gallery will be open and a planetarium show will also be featured for the UMI.
Geotechnical Field Tour Fee (September 17 and 18): USD 275 per person. This is a 2-day tour to areas of technical interest between Mauna Kea and the Volcanoes National Park. Thirty openings are available for participants and their guests, and the fee covers bus transportation, entry fees, most meals, and field guide. Continuous stay at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel is at each participant’s own expense.
Deadline to register for the Geotechnical Field Tour is July 31, 2011.

United States citizens do not need a U.S. visa or passport for travel to Hawai‘i. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may need a visa for entry into the United States. There are two major airports on the island of Hawai‘i and flying into the Hilo International Airport (IGO) will place you within minutes of the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
Major car rental companies (Hertz, National, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty, and Enterprise) offer a full range of vehicles to meet your needs.
Jack’s Hawai‘i offers roundtrip (Hilo Airport to Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and return to Hilo Airport) service for USD 24 per person (note: there is 2-person minimum requirement). Please email a request and flight information, along with the Jack’s Hawai‘i Authorization Form (PDF), directly to Jack’s.
There is no public transportation, but a free and very limited shuttle service is provided by the Hawaii Mass Transit Authority called The Hele-On Bus. If you have a special transportation need, UMI staff maybe able to assist you while in Hilo.
